Sikhism

Overview

Sikhism is a faith that, at the beginning, was meant to reconcile differences between people (most especially between Hindus and Muslims). They believe that everyone worships the same God, and therefore, fighting among religions was pointless. Many times, however, Sikhs have been required to defend their faith with the sword.

One of the basic purposes of Sikhism is to achieve mukti (release) from the round of rebirths. Life isn't viewed negatively in Sikhism as it is in Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. Another goal is to achieve union with God, who is immaterial, yet personal.
