Business Summit - Nolan Archibald

CEO - Black and Decker

During the business summit on March 20, 2008, I was able to listen to Brother Archibald speak. He talked about the many different projects he has worked on in the past, including companies he has helped turn around, his experience as a CEO, and his current job at Black and Decker. He also went over principles to achieve success, priorities in life, and ethics.

Brother Archibald was a really good speaker to listen to. I liked how he went over what he thought were principles to achieve success, which are:

  • Believe in your potential
  • Focus
  • Develop an effective plan
  • Work hard and be persistent
  • Luck
  • Keep priorities right

The priorities that he mentioned for himself are family, church, career, and community service. Brother Archibald also mentioned ethical courage and ethical leadership. He quoted Ned Hill, who is the Dean of the Marriott School in BYU, who has spoken on ethics in business and how to apply them to our lives. I really enjoyed listening to Brother Archibald.

Living our religion gives us a competitive advantage.
